1. Q: How quickly can I have my teen enrolled?
A: Some families need to work within a tight time from and in most cases this can be accommodated. The minimum is 24 hours.

2. Q: Are there any financial aid or assistance programs available?
A: Please speak with your admissions representative for financial assistance questions. There are many options for funding your child’s tuition.

3. Q: Is enrollment open or are there specific times of the year to enroll my teen?
A: We have year-round enrollment for the school. This is possible because of the nature of the academic program. For more information about academics, please see the Academics section of this website.

4. Q: How often are visits allowed?
A: Visits and phone calls are allowed with the teen reaches the appropriate level of status as an earned privilege.

5. Q: How many teens sleep in a room?
A: Four to eight students sleep in one room. The room is partially divided so that no more than four students sleep in one section of a room.

6. Q: How long do the teen stay?
A: Graduated from Horizon Academy is based solely on the results and changes created by the student in the school. Placing a time limit on graduation takes the focus off of the task at hand, which is making changes that work and last.

7. Q: How is the family involved in the student’s program?

A: Each teen is assigned a family representative that is in contact with your teen throughout the day. Weekly phone calls are made by your family representative to you, to update your teen’s progress. In time, therapeutic phone calls are made for the purpose of working out family issues. Parents and teens communicate by letter as often as they like. A series of self-growth seminars, which are nearly identical to the seminars the teen participates in, is provided for the parents in several locations throughout the country.

8. Q: Once I make the decision to enroll my teen, how do I get them to Horizon Academy?
A: Your admissions representative will assist you through different options for getting your teen to the school. Each situation is different. Some students will come voluntarily, while others will not. We let you determine what you feel is best for your child.

9. Q: If my teen enters Horizon Academy in the middle of a school term, will they have to repeat academic work they have already done?
A: Upon admission, our Academic staff will request and review your child’s transcript from their previous school. We will accept any credits previously awarded. If a student has failed classes which are necessary for completion of high school, we will have them repeat only those classes.

10. Q: My child may turn eighteen while enrolled at Horizon Academy. Does the school have the legal right to keep them from leaving after the eighteenth birthday?
A: No. By law, an eighteen year old person is considered of legal age and may discharge him or herself from the school. “Exit plans” may be arranged in advance, however, to facilitate a smooth transition between Horizon Academy and the next step in the student’s life. Many students choose to remain at school beyond their eighteenth birthday, however, as they are set on accomplishing specific goals not tied to their physical age.
